As I sit here, cradling the delicate fluted cup that has been passed down through generations of my family, I am struck by the weight of history and nostalgia it carries. This teacup, nearly 150 years old, was a treasured possession of my great-great-grandmother, a woman renowned for her creativity and innovative spirit.

Growing up, I had the privilege of visiting my great-great-grandmother's home, where I would spend hours exploring the wonders she had created with her own hands. Her house was a veritable treasure trove of handmade curiosities, from intricately crafted furniture to beautiful garden ornaments fashioned from repurposed farming equipment. Every visit was a sensory feast, filled with the sights, sounds, and stories of her creations.

One of my favorite memories is of her taking me on a tour of her latest projects, regaling us with tales of inspiration and experimentation. She would show me how she had transformed ordinary materials into extraordinary works of art, imbuing each piece with a sense of love and care that was palpable. Those visits instilled in me a deep appreciation for the beauty of handmade objects and the stories they hold.

As I reflect on my own creative journey, I am reminded of why I am so drawn to sketching teacups – including the very same one that has been passed down through our family. For me, it's not just about capturing their intricate designs or delicate shapes; it's about honoring the history and tradition that surrounds them.
